Hummingbird Series (2007)

Following my grief series, I began an exercise in daily painting.  I started out with this hummingbird.  It was my first hummingbird and has remained my favorite.  Unfortunately, I added too much thinner to the  oils and about a year later, it started flaking off the masonite board much to my disappointment.  I had a high enough quality photo that I was able to have it printed on canvas at full size (12x24 inches) and it came out great.  After completing this painting, I was excited about painting hummingbirds and did a 30-day challenge.  Since it was a painting-a-day, I tried not to be upset when one didn't turn out, just moved on to the next day.  So there are some I like and some I hate.  In the end, I was offered space in Tempe, Arizona to display my work so I made a trip out there to set up in a coffee shop, and enjoyed an art festival while I was there.  A few pics of that at the bottom.  I don't remember the details but I somehow left the artwork out there too long and lost touch with whoever had it - never got those paintings back.
